Update on the Fargo Flood Diversion Project

The FM Area Diversion project will deliver permanent, reliable flood protection to the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. Kris Bakkegard, director of engineering for the Metro Flood Diversion Authority, and Adam Ruud, principal and civil engineer for the Houston-Moore Group, will discuss the project needs and provide an overview of its components, project operation, the number of bridges and road modifications needed, entities involved in coordinating the work, and challenges and successes of collaborating across these entities. The project is being constructed using a split-delivery concept, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working on a number of components and a public-private partnership, through the Red River Valley Alliance, delivering additional components. Their work is in conjunction with that being done by local city and county governments and is in partnership with the Metro Flood Diversion Authority.
